Pe 16 martie 2022, forțele armate invadatoare ruse au bombardat Teatrul din Donețk, în care se adăpostiseră mai ales femei şi copii. Această crimă de război a pus capăt vieții a sute de civili şi a pus la pământ o clădire-simbol a teatrului ucrainean.
Dar nu i-a înfrânt pe artişti. La patru luni de la dezastruosul eveniment, un grup din actorii Teatrului din Mariupol, sub bagheta Directoarei lor, au scos premiera cu acest spectacol, în oraşul Ujgorod, din vestul Ucrainei, unde s-au refugiat.

Pentru Strigătul Națiunii, artiştii au ales o figură emblematică a culturii ucrainene, poetul Vasil Stus. Considerat a fi al doilea poet, ca importanță, al țării, el a fost şi o victimă a Uniunii Sovietice. Moscova nu l-a iertat de disidentul ucrainean, interzicându-i cărțile şi aruncându-l în închisoare. Treisprezece ani a fost întemnițat, până la moartea sa, în 1985, la doar 47 de ani.
On March 16, 2022 the Russian invading armed forces bombed the Donetsk Theater. Women and children had found refuge there. This war crime took the lives of hundreds of civilians and destroyed a building that was a symbol of Ukrainian theater.
But it could not defeat the artists. Four months after the fateful event, a group of actors from the Mariupol Theater, under the baton of their manager, premiered this show in Uzhhorod, in western Ukraine, where they had taken refuge.

For The Cry of a Nation the artists chose an emblematic figure of the Ukrainian culture, the poet Vasyl Stus. Considered to be the second most important poet in his country, he was also a victim of the Soviet Union. Moscow did not forgive the Ukrainian dissident: his books were forbidden and he was put in prison for thirteen years, until his death in 1985, at the age of 47.
